Durbanville Success for Pathfork

Sandown Stud’s G1 winning sire Pathfork continues to churn out winners all over the country, and the former Irish champion enjoyed more success on Saturday when Pathfork gelding Path Of Choice won the eighth and final race at Durbanville.

Trained by Vaughan Marshall, the hard-pulling five-year-old relishes the Durbanville track and overcame a wide trip and poor draw to win a good race.

Under Richard Fourie, Path Of Choice powered home late to get up close home by nearly half a length, while scoring a shade cosily.

Bred by the Klawervlei Stud, Path Of Choice has now won three times, with the gelding’s victories having all come over 1400 metres.

A half-brother to last season’s G1 Jonsson Workwear Cape Derby/G1 Daily News 2000 winner Linebacker (also trained by Marshall), Path Of Choice is out of the well-performed Redoute’s Choice mare Thin Red Line -runner up in both the G3 Hertz Fillies Mile and Listed Starling Stakes.

The latter is herself a three-parts sister to the Not A Single Doubt sired G1 Winx Stakes winner Samadoubt.

Standing at Sandown Stud this season for R5,000, Pathfork (above) is the sire of 11 stakes winners headlines by G1 winners Pearl Of Asia and Mighty High.
