Pathfork's Son Hubble Wins In Mauritius

Saturday’s 27th meeting of the season in Mauritius saw the feature race of the day filled with plenty of emotion.

Malaysian jockey, Benedict Woodworth, finally opened his winning account for the season aboard the quality galloper Hubble who recorded a start to finish victory over the 1600m of The Ramnarain Rajcoomar Gujadhur Cup.

Benedict Woodworth suffered a heavy fall on the opening day of the 2021 season and, following a long absence, he returned to competition, but just couldn’t get on the winner’s board, until now…

Jumping Hubble away quickly from the inside barrier, Woodworth found the front on the Pathfork gelding where he maintained his position throughout.

Charging into the final turn, the 5yo gelding Hubble kicked clear, holding off all challengers to record an impressive victory, just under two lengths clear of Stopalltheclocks (Trippi) with Tsitsikamma Dance (Captain Al) taking third place.

This race was run in 1:36.10, thus achieving the best time recorded over the distance, which was previously held at 1:36.68, achieved by G1 winner Undercover Agent.

It was clear from the victory, that emotion was high for Woodworth as he crossed the line in first place. It must be remembered that he was very close to late Nooresh Juglall, and upon his return to the jockeys’ room, the Malaysian jockey was applauded by his colleagues.

Bred in South Africa by Highlands Farms Stud (Pty) Ltd, Hubble was sold through the draft of Rosedene Stud at the 2018 Cape Thoroughbred April Yearling Sale for R80,000 to trainer Glen Kotzen.

South African-based Pathfork has been experiencing a great run of late in Mauritius, with the G1-winning and producing son of Distorted Humor, recording a trio of victories last weekend including feature race winner Rob Roy.
