Rimaah Roars Home

Promising two-year-old Rimaah, who was bred by Sandown Stud on behalf of Shadwell Stud, showed her class when breaking her maiden impressively at Turffontein on Saturday.

Runner up in each of her only two previous starts, Rimaah was all the rage for Saturday’s Welcome To The Hennenman Memorial Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1450m) and duly lived up to expectations.

Under JP Van Der Merwe, the 3-10 favourite sauntered home, with Rimaah just having to be ridden out to win by a length and three-quarters.

Rimaah, who is trained by Mike De Kock, races for Al Adiyaat South Africa.

The filly is the eighth two-year-old winner for Querari this season, with that son of Oasis Dream currently South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs for 2021-2022 by stakes earned.

Rimaah, a R100 000 buy when knocked down to Jehan Malherbe at last year’s National Yearling Sale, is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Zaakhira. The latter, a winner over 1200m who ran third in the Listed Swallow Stakes, hails from one of the best families in the Australian stud book, with Zaakhira’s dam Regally Blonde a winning half-sister to globetrotting champion sprinter, and successful sire, Starspangledbanner.

Further back, this is the family of the outstanding half-brothers Elvstroem and Haradasun as well as the Coolmore based seven time G1 winner Highland Reel.
