Sandown Stud Raised Rafeef Filly Looks Smart

Ridgemont Highlands’ promising young stallion Rafeef looks to have another potentially smart sort in the form of Manaajim, who was raised at Sandwon Stud on behalf of owner Shadwell Stud.

The latter, owned by the estate of Rafeef’s late owner Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum and trained by the sire’s trainer Mike de Kock, got off the mark at just the second time of asking with a smart performance at Turffontein on Sunday.

Under Craig Zackey, Manaajim was sent for home someway out in Sunday’s Welcome To Turffontein Maiden Plate (F&M) (1450m), and she kept finding more in the closing stages.

The three-year-old kicked clear to win by an impressive two and three-quarter lengths, leaving the consistent Golden Aspen struggling in her wake.

Bred by Shadwell Stud, Manaajim had finished fifth over 1000m on her only previous start and she looks to have the scope to build on this win.

She is out of the Shamardal mare Shahrasal -a winner and runner up in the G3 UAE Oaks.

Manaajim is the 19th winner to have emerged from Rafeef’s first crop, with this crop also including the likes of William Robertson, Mounia, Bella Chica and October Song.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2019-2020, Rafeef has three lots on this month’s CTS Ready To Run Sale, and a further three lots on the November Two Year Old Sale.
