Soqrat sister popular at Easter Yearling Sale

A half-sister to former Equus Champion Soqrat proved popular on the second day of this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The Snitzel filly, consigned to the sale by Yarraman Park Stud (As Agent), was knocked down to Milano Bloodstock / Badgers Bloodstock / Reg Ryan for $410 000, and she looks to have been a great buy at the price!

A lovely specimen, the filly had plenty to recommend her -aside from her hugely popular, multiple champion sire Snitzel.

Her half-brother Soqrat, raced by the much missed Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum, won or placed in 16 of his 18 starts while earning R3 576 750 in prize money.

Soqrat’s efforts saw him finish in the first three in 10 graded races, with his seven career wins highlighted by victories in all of the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes, G1 Cape Guineas (a race won previously by such outstanding stallions as Captain Al and Jet Master), and G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes.

Ranking among the best of his generation at two, three and four, Soqrat was South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2017-2018 when his three wins, from four starts, included the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes.

The pair were produced by dual winner Elzeeza, a Hussonet three-parts sister to both G2 ATC Phar Lap Stakes queen Colorado Claire and to the stakes placed dam of G1 winning sprinter Lucky Bubbles.

Elzeeza herself is out of Hawkesbury Guineas runner up Lunasong, a daughter of deceased top US sire and broodmare sire Unbridled’s Song.

Further back, this is the family of French classic winner and multiple champion sire Linamix.
