Three In A Row For Pathfork Gelding

The Sandown Stud based Irish champion Pathfork looks to have another smart sort to his name in the form of Goethe.

The latter made it three wins in a row with a stirring victory at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.

Following the late scratching of promising Rafeef colt Cleaver Greene, Goethe was sent off a well-backed 5-1 shot, and duly lived up to expectations.

Under Kabelo Matsunyane, three-year-old Goethe stayed on too strongly for his rivals and went on to land Saturday’s www.highveldracing.co.za MR 88 Handicap by nearly half a length.

He was saddled by James Crawford, who is operating his father Brett’s yard in Gauteng.

Bred by the Riethuiskraal Stud, Goethe, who has improved since being gelded, had finished seventh on debut before finishing third next time out. He has won all three of his subsequent starts and looks a progressive sort in the making.

Out of the Singspiel mare Bint Susu, Goethe was a R70 000 buy from the 2020 National 2YO Sale.

His G1 National Stakes-winning sire Pathfork is enjoying another fine season in 2021-2022, with the son of Distorted Humor currently above the likes of Var, Captain Al and Dynasty on the General Sires List.
