TRIPLE TREAT FOR PATHFORK AT CHAMP DE MARS
The 26th meeting of the season, held at Champ de Mars on Saturday October 9, saw the running of nine races headlined by the feature, The Ram Ruhee OBE Memorial Trophy over 990m.
South African-based stallion Pathfork, a G1-winning and producing son of Distorted Humor, provided three winners on the day led by Rob Roy, winner of the feature race for trainer Vincent Allet and jockey Dinesh Sooful.
Quick away from the barriers, Sooful harnessed Rob Roy’s unmatched speed to take the lead and remain unchallenged throughout the 990m, charging to the line to record his seventh victory at Champ de Mars.
Earlier in the day, fellow Pathfork geldings Duke’s Domain and Bless My Path also added to their winning records, winning over 1650m and 1365m respectively.
Trained by Rameshwar Gujadhur, Duke’s Domain is clearly one of the most consistent performers in the stable, winning for the second time this season, and his fourth since arriving in Mauritius.
Foaled at Ridgemont Highlands, the 6yo chestnut received a magnificent ride from Sooful, sitting handy in third position behind race leader Colour My Fate, before passing the weakening leader and holding off the late charge of the Akash Aucharuz-ridden runner up Lemon Drop Shot.
The very next race on the meeting saw Pathfork in action once again when his 4yo son Bless My Path took the prize for trainer Preetam Daby.
Bred by The Alchemy Stud, Bless My Path improved from his very unlucky second last time out where he recovered from stumbling badly when going for a gap between runners.
Well ridden by Roby Bheekary, Bless My Path settled in fourth position, two wide in the run before Daby pulled the baldy faced gelding off the leader’s heels as the field thundered into the home turn.
The widest on the turn, and slightly running around down the home straight, Daby managed to lift Bless My Path, getting to the finish post three parts of a length ahead of runner up Captain Garett.
The sire of last season’s G1 Mercury Sprint winner Pearl of Asia and G1-winning juvenile Mighty High, the Sandown Stud-based Pathfork is the sire of 26 stakes winners and standing this season at a fee of just R5,000 plus VAT, great value for a sire of his caliber.
